FAQ– Frequently Asked Questions |
|
Q: What is an ADA / Handicap toilet?
A: The toilet at the bowl is taller by 2-4 inches compared to that of a non ADA toilet; thus, it meets the requirements of the American Disability Act. It only comes with elongated shape seat. You will normally find ADA toilets in commercial buildings in the stall designated with handicap sign. It is also called “Relaxed Height” or “ Comfort Height” toilet.
Q: Do I need to change bathroom flooring?
A: Most bathrooms have either tiles or linoleum flooring which is laid under the existing toilet. Therefore, the difference in the base of the new toilet should be fine. If you have very old linoleum, the color might be faded, and you might have the old footprint visible. If you have carpeting, the carpet is almost always cut around your existing toilet base. If your existing toilet base is smaller than the new one, you can reshape the carpet to fit the new toilet base. However, if your existing toilet base is larger, you will have a gap. Call our office with your existing toilet base measurement, we will try to help you to minimize the chance of having a gap.
Q: How many toilets can we have under this program?
A: Under this program, the maximum is 3 toilets, one per bathroom up to 3 bathrooms.
Q: We have gotten a rebate on one toilet and a free toilet from the EMWD, do we still qualify to get on this direct installation program?
A: Only if you have 3 bathrooms in you house. Since you have 2 water saving toilets (one from the rebate and one from the free distribution program) the third bathroom with the old water guzzling toilet can be changed out with this direct installation program.
Q: I am a renter. Can I sign up for this program?
A: With an approval from the owner of the property, a renter can sign up for this program.
Q: How do I know if toilets use 3.5 gallon per flush or more?
A: If your house was built before 1994, you most likely use 3.5 gallons per flush or more. If you not sure when the house was built, please contact us.
Q: I do not have a water account with EMWD, but my homeowners association pays water bills to EMWD. Can I still apply for this program?
A: Yes, with an EMWD account number from your association.
Q: I have ledge / cabinet / counter above my existing toilet. Do I need to remove it for the new toilet?
A: The new toilet can fit in if you have total clearance of 33 inches for the regular toilet and 37 inches if you want an ADA toilet. Please measure the distance from the floor to the ledge to make sure you have the space for the new toilet.
